Dennis Hopper, the high-flying Hollywood wild man whose memorable and erratic career included an early turn in “Rebel Without a Cause,” an improbable smash with “Easy Rider” and a classic character role in “Blue Velvet,” has died. He was 74.
Hopper died Saturday at his home in the Los Angeles beach community of Venice, surrounded by family and friends, family friend Alex Hitz said. Hopper’s manager announced in October 2009 that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Who’s Andrew Joseph Stack ?What so special about this one guy?What many people are trying to figure out is who is the pilot that crashed into the Echelon building in North Austin. According property records with Travis County, Andrew Joseph Stack own the home that was burned down right before the plane crash. Sources have confirmed that the house fire and the plane crash are connected.
A federal law enforcement official has identified the pilot in the plane crash as Joseph Stack and says investigators are looking at an anti-government message on the Web linked to him.
The Web site outlines problems with the IRS and says violence “is the only answer.”
The IRS said in a statement that the small plane struck its Austin offices, where 190 of the agency’s employees work. Officials say they are still trying to account for all the workers. The official said authorities are looking for a motive at Stack’s company Web site. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss an investigation still in progress.
Stack did have a single engine plane registered in his name in California.
The father-in-law of Joe Stack says he knew Stach had a “hang-up” with the IRS. Jack Cook also told The New York Times that Stack’s marriage had been strained. Cook says Stack’s wife on Wednesday night took her daughter to a hotel to get away from Stack.
The web site that Joe Stack wrote on featured a long note dated Thursday denouncing the government and the IRS in particular. It cited the Austin man’s problems with the agency.
Stack wrote a blog his frustrating with the federal government. Included in his blog were the following statements: “I know I’m hardly the first one to decide I have had all I can stand. It has always been a myth that people have stopped dying for their freedom in this country, and it isn’t limited… I know there have been countless before me and there are sure to be as many after. But I also know that by not adding my body to the count, I insure nothing will change.”
“I saw it written once that the definition of insanity is repeating the same process over and over and expecting the outcome to suddenly be different. I am finally ready to stop this insanity. Well, Mr. Big Brother IRS man, let’s try something different; take my pound of flesh and sleep well.”
